Is It Safe to Talk to an AI About My Mental Health?

Here's What You Need to Know

It's a fair question. You're being asked to open up to a machine — and naturally, you want to know: Who sees this? Where does it go? Is this going to be used against me?

Let's be straight with you.

Seniorman Kels is built on Anthropic's Claude technology — one of the most privacy-conscious AI platforms in the world. Anthropic (the company behind the technology) has made clear commitments around not using your conversations to train its models by default, and not selling your data to third parties.

Here's what that means in practice for you:

What Kels does:

  • Responds to what you type in real time
  • Gives you a private, one-to-one conversation experience
  • Signposts you to relevant support or Seniorman programmes where appropriate

What Kels does not do:

  • Share your conversation with your employer, doctor, or anyone else
  • Store personally identifiable information unnecessarily
  • Judge you, report you, or flag your name anywhere

Is it truly confidential?

Kels is not a medical record. It is not connected to the NHS, DVLA, DWP, or any government system. Talking to Kels is closer to writing in a private journal than it is to calling a helpline where a case file might be opened.

We want to be honest: no digital tool is 100% exempt from risk — that's true of WhatsApp, email, or any app on your phone. But Seniorman Kels has been deliberately built with your dignity and privacy in mind.

What about the Seniorman Network itself?

Seniorman Network CIC is a registered Community Interest Company based in Derby. We are not a data broker. We are not a commercial tech company trying to monetise your personal information. We are a community organisation — funded by the National Lottery Community Fund — with a legal and ethical obligation to protect the people we serve.

Your wellbeing conversation with Kels is yours.

Trust is built one conversation at a time, and we're not in a rush.

Still not sure?

That's okay. You don't have to share anything personal to start. You can test Kels with a simple question — ask it about Seniorman's programmes, or what support is available in Derby. Get a feel for it. Trust is built one conversation at a time, and we're not in a rush.
